Mother Nature is an incredible force that gives us everything we need to survive. Unfortunately, our great world is looking for some much needed TLC. Thankfully, there are easy ways you can help the environment that will all add up to make a huge difference. And no, you don’t have to start wearing leaves or weaving your own shoes just yet.
Think about water
How much water do you use? Leaving the tap running while brushing your teeth or having a leak in the shower may seem insignificant, but these can add up to hundreds of gallons a year. By turning off the taps and making sure everything is sealed as it should, you could help cut down on all that water that goes to waste every year.
Yes, we have all heard of the importance of recycling by now – so why aren’t you doing it?! Having a recycling box at work or school, as well as the usual ones in your home, can significantly help the environment. Recycling cuts down on the amount of waste in our landfills as well as giving all those bits of trash a new lease of life.
Planning out your meals doesn’t just help save some big bucks, it could also aid in helping the environment. The less we throw in the trash, the less waste there is in the world. Could it get any better? When in the grocery store perhaps start shopping by expiration dates to make sure you have a product that will last all week rather than grabbing the closest one to the front of the shelf.
Grab a bag
Disposable bags can cause major issues for the planet. As well as ending up in the trash, these bags can also make their way to the ocean where they disrupt many ecosystems. All you need is a reusable bag that you can keep in your car or purse, and you’ll already be making a huge difference! Plus they come in so many designs there is something for everyone.
Most of us have a house that is fully fitted with light bulbs. However, these can wreak havoc with Mother Nature. One simple way to help save the environment is to opt for energy saving bulbs. They use less electricity and may even last longer. If you want to go one step further, make sure to turn off any lights when you leave the room to save on any waste.
Cut down on cars
This can be done in a number of ways. Leaving the car at home and using public transport or cycling can be brilliant for cutting down on all those emissions. If you live too far away from the store or office then why not take a friend with you? If you both work together or shop at the same stores than combining your trips into one will reduce the number of journeys. Plus, now you’ll get a travel buddy – great!
Cut the aircon
Air conditioning units can be great on those long hot days. That fresh breeze, mmm. However, these are one of the worst offenders for harming the environment. Why not think about opening the doors and windows instead? You’ll get to enjoy the fresh air from outside as well as keep your home naturally cool and save the environment. It’s a win-win situation.
We only have one planet, and it’s time to start looking after it! Helping the environment doesn’t have to be hard. With a few simple changes, we could soon be making a huge impact. Now it’s time to start inspiring our friends, too.
