Maybe you’ve seen how quickly Kylie Jenner has become a (nearly) self-made billionaire, and you want to do the same? You may even just hate your job and want to do it all on your own. Whatever the reason, starting your own business and becoming a boss is an exciting time – but it’s also hard work. Here are some top tips for making sure you are successful.
Love what you do
First of all, before you quit your job, you’re going to work out what you want your business to be. What are your skills and talents? And, most importantly, what are your passions? If you are a great coder and love building apps, then this could be the perfect business model for you. If you adore writing, and have been told you’re pretty good, then this is another industry you could try to crack. Being good at something is half the battle, you also have to really enjoy what you do. Otherwise, you could find yourself giving up when the going gets tough.
Rome wasn’t built in a day
Nowadays, it can be too easy to pit yourself against other bosses and hope that you’ll be a famous entrepreneur within weeks of launching your business. However, it’s important to remember that there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes when it comes to building a business. Rome wasn’t built in a day – quite literally. If you’re getting frustrated that things aren’t moving fast enough, you need to take a step back and give yourself some time. You’ll get there, don’t give up hope.
Never give up
Look, being a boss as a woman is hard, hard work. You’re going to be rejected, you’re going to lose out jobs to the competition, you’re going to have days when you really just want to give it all up. However, what sets the successful bosses apart from the not-so-successful is that they never give up. Whatever life throws at them, they’re resilient enough to take it on the chin and keep going. If disaster strikes, chalk it up as a learning curve and keep going.
You don’t need to do it alone
One mistake that many new business owners make is that they feel as though they have to do it all on their own. After all, enlisting help is a sign of weakness, right? Wrong. In fact, the strongest bosses know that they’re going to need an excellent support network around them if they want to be a success. Ask one of your role models if they wouldn’t mind mentoring you, attend networking meetings to seek advice and learn from the best, and even talk to your friends and family about it all. It can be lonely at the top, so don’t forget to share some of that new business stress.
